Lighty up electric window switches.

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Lighty up electric window switches.

Postby chris1roll » Thu Jun 30, 2005 11:13 pm

I always thought it would be much better if the electric window switches lit up.

Then I was driving Amy's late model 460, and guess what, hers do!

You can see where I am going with this.

Hopefully (and I haven't checked yet) the bulbs will simply take power from the electric window feed, and won't require any other wiring. The switches themselves are identical in size.

Has to be from a late model 440/460 with the switches in the door handle, the earlier models are like ours.

Anyone off down the scrappy soon?

Hey, that´s a good one..sounds intresting. I recently installed the footwell lights and sounds like there is more upgrades to come.
So the switch has a green spot that´s lit up? I replaced the heater knob a few weeks ago and the price from Volvo was, if I remember right, about 1-2euros..maybe this switch isn´t "standard" volvo price either?
I´m following this thread..

I know someone took the switches from an 850 and installed those, but from a 460 would be better to keep things 'in the 400-family'

Can you take pictures of the late 460 switches? Wonder what they will look like :D

@pol: I was wondering what 480 had the red lit-up seatbelt buttons on the chairs, my 1987 es didn't have them, nor my 1995 ES and 1995 Turbo Collection.

TODO-list:
- red lit-up seatbelt lights
- footwell lights
- perhaps the grips that attach to the roof with lights in them
- ... ;)

A friends '91 'H' Turbo had them. It's possible all pre '92's had them but the bulbs die. Just like I never knew our hazard light switches were meant to light all the time!

The hazard switch looks pretty cool when it's lit up for some reason (I think so anyway!).

I also found it quite wierd that my 1987es had a light in the bonnet to lit up the engine and my 1994gt haven´t even got a place for it
TODO-list:

I´ve read that some 1986es had them and that they are the same as in some 460´s. Been thinking of that too, do you know if there is holes for them in after 92´ models? :?

When I find a snowcap intake I will celebrate it by having the bonnet of my spareparts car -87 painted in 321..I want light!

IIRC, there are no mounting places for them, and the wiring is notable by its absence...

Not insurmountable if you are handy enough to create mountings for them, and put in new wires.

The connections on the back are a little different but they work exactly the same. :dunno:

Windowswitches

Postby VOLVO480S » Sat Nov 12, 2005 12:13 pm

Will the windowswitches of an 850 fit too, as you said the connections were (already) a little different between 460 and a 480? I've read something before on this forum, but couldn't find the answer to it.

This whole light up window switch thing. May look nice, but i've just noticed that not only does the toll booth function not work (which i could live with), but neither does the total closure! Now that was very handy! Don't think i can be without that, specially in the summer time...

Anybody else notice this?

What do you mean by total closure? Have I been keeping my finger on the up button too long???

Total closure= the feature which is on all CEM3 cars. It enables you to turn your key in the lock of the drivers door an dif you hold it there all windows and the sunroof will close.
