Rear seat belt caught

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Rear seat belt caught

Postby Jaster » Sun Jan 24, 2010 11:23 am

So I had the rear seats down and the right rear seat belt got a bit twisted in the process. I managed to untangle it but now it's stuck. Is there a way to get inside to release it or are seat belts and other life-saving features something best left to the professionals?

On the plus side I'm glad it's happened now, a week ago and it would probably have cost me an MOT! :)

It is unlikely that the inertial mechanism is damaged from your description . The reel has to be vertical or it will not release. If the belt is tight and you cant get any slack to release the belt then undo the top bolt and get some slack. . Be patience and gentle and you should get the reel released.

If you do have to replace it I have a spare :D

however having removed a few of these belts the inertial reel mechanism is not designed for user access / repair and to be honest if you need to reach that stage would you trust your life to it or one of your kids etc... I wouldnt.

thanks for the advice - I had a play with it this afternoon and go it working again, and while I had the tools in the car I took a few units out of the centre console to change some dead bulbs so all in all very productive!
