I'm having problems with putting in a Volvo radio cassette in my 87 480. Once I push the connectors home I can get power but nothing out of the speakers. Not a sound. Not even a crackle. Nil. Nada. You get the picture!! What can I do to sort it out? Do the earlier cars have different wiring to later ones? I'm wondering if I have the correct loom between the radio and the car? I know that at some point everything became standard so any radio/cd will now go into any car with no need for a loom to join them and although it's a Volvo radio going into a Volvo I'm wondering if I need a different loom to the one I've got. I'd appreciate advice and pictures if anyone can help. Cheers.

Do the speakers work with another radio? if not check the speakers in the door. my doors had 2 lots of wiring for the speakers, 1 lot feeds the rear ( i think) the other feed the front. see if you can connect a speaker directly to the back of the radio (just to see if it works)
I hope this helps

I think the problem might be that I'm using the wrong wiring harness. There are no rear speakers on this car and the previous owner knows that the front ones were working ok before he changed the radio and the harness. I could do with a pic from somewhere of an early model 480 (87-89?) radio wiring harness in place.

Yozman the wires inside the door are for the main speaker and the tweeter which is built into the doorhandle (blue wires).
